Doing Business in Ukraine: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow with Yuri Yekhanurov

We are delighted to invite you to a presentation on July 10, hosted by our law firm and Frydays W, where three panelists will discuss “Doing Business in Ukraine: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow”.

Mr. Yuriy Yekhanurov, Mr. Oleksandr Paskhaver - economist and Director of the Center for Economic Development - and Oleksandr Savchenko - Ex-deputy head of the National Bank of Ukraine - will present their views about the current state of Ukrainian politics, economy and law, and provide their insights about the future course of the country’s path.

This round table discussion will be moderated by Alex Frishberg, managing partner of the Kiev-based law firm of Frishberg & Partners.

Below we provide you with brief biographies of our distinguished speakers:

Yuriy Yekhanurov was the first deputy head of the Ukrainian Presidential Secretariat. He has previously served as the Prime Minister and Minister of Defense. When Ukraine gained its independence in 1991, Mr. Yekhanurov started working for the Kiev municipal government. He was appointed as Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine in 1993, and later headed the State Property Fund of Ukraine (which coordinated the privatization) from 1994 to 1997. He also served for a short time as Minister of Economy in the cabinet of Pavlo Lazarenko in 1997. He was elected a member of the Ukrainian parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, in 1998. Oleksandr Savchenko served as Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine (1991 to 1992); Executive Director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), London (1993 to 1996); Adviser to the Prime Minister of Ukraine and Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine as a public service (1996 to 1997); Chairman of the Board of Bank Austria Kreditanstalt Ukraine (1997 to 1999); Chairman of the Board of the International Commerce Bank Joint-Stock Company (1999 to 2005); Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine (2005 to 09/25/2009); and Deputy Minister of Finance of Ukraine (09/28/2009 to 03/11/2010). Dr. Savchenko is an author (or coauthor) of four monographs and more than 160 papers in Economics and Banking. Oleksand Paskhaver. After graduating from the Kyiv Institute of National Economy, Mr. Paskhaver underwent his post-graduate studies in the USSR Academy of Sciences' Institute of Economy (Moscow). He is a Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Member of the Academy of Technological Sciences of Ukraine, Honored Economist of Ukraine, Adviser to President of Ukraine. Mr. Paskhaver was an active participant of the process of market reforms implementation in Ukraine's economy, and in 1995 he became one of the initiators of the creation of the Centre for Economic Development and currently serves as the President and Chairman of the Editorial Board of the Monitoring of the Economy of Ukraine. Mr. Paskhaver has served as Advisor to the President, Prime Minister, deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and to the Chair of the State Property Fund of Ukraine. Moderator: Mr. Alex Frishberg was born in Kiev, Ukraine, on May 9, 1963. His family immigrated to St. Louis, Missouri (USA) in 1975, where he received a B.A. in English language and literature from University of Missouri and a J.D. from Washington University School of Law. Prior to relocating to Ukraine in October, 1991, Mr. Frishberg practiced at one of the largest law firms in Washington, D.C., Hogan & Hartson (currently Hogan Lovells). Since then, he has represented numerous multi-national companies and foreign embassies, assisting them in entering and successfully working in the Ukrainian market.
