On December 3, 2009, Frishberg & Partners and Swedbank organized a workshop on “Customs and Import Duties: Dealing with Today’s Problems,” which took place before foreign exporters in Ukraine. Alex Frishberg moderated a lively discussion. The speakers included:

In summary, Mr. Frishberg briefly provided an overview of import-export operations in Ukraine under existing law. Next, Ms. Anastasia Dokuka described how import-export actually works in practice, describing various problems that arise and providing practical solutions to resolve them amicably with  customs officials. Lastly, Vladimir Lukovich provided an overview of specific aspects of import-export transactions, including VAT, customs duties, and certifications, among others.

In December, 2009, the firm’s senior partner, Scott Brown, published an article about Ukraine’s tax and customs regime for imports in BNA’s Tax Planning International. October 21, 2009

On October 21, 2009, Frishberg & Partners organized and hosted a roundtable featuring Dr. Taras Kuzio before Kiev’s foreign diplomatic and business community. Dr. Kuzio, a noted politologist on Ukrainian issues, spoke about “Ukraine’s 2010 Elections: Political Background and Future Prognosis.” Dr. Kuzio summarized the recent history that gave rise to the current political climate and described today’s reality.
